In this interview, Dr. Luehmann describes the JuST framework as an outgrowth from AST — expanding each of the core practices to support meaningful, culturally sustaining work and social transformation. The framework was developed in partnership with pre-service teachers working in rural communities.
Emphases in the JuST framework include working on meaningful science learning foci that sustain and support local communities, eliciting students’ stories, and bringing in community expertise — all grounded in relationship.
